Unhappy ending to a long search…
Wendell the wallaby, whose story attracted national headlines and scores of searchers who responded to marsupial sightings across Eastern Ontario, is dead.

Carla Saunders, Wendell’s owner, said the animal’s body was found by a neighbour yesterday morning in a field just east of the Saunders Country Critters and Garden Centre, south of Kemptville.
“It was an awful phone call for her to have to make,” said an emotional Saunders. “I’m a basketcase.
“He was a wonderful animal,” she said, adding: “At least we now have closure.”
Wendell will be buried at the Country Critters and Gardens Centre. The zoo has more than 60 species of animals including kangaroos and wallabies. Wendell was born at the zoo.
